Social Life in Middle
Ages
Social division in the High Middle Ages contains a large
faucet for misinterpretation and misconception. Life in Christian Europe during the High Middle Ages were
drawn into three various social classifications, “Those Who Work”, “Those Who Fight”, and “Those Who Pray”.
These three areas represent the peasants, nobles, and monks respectively. Contrary to popular belief, the
social organization is based in terms of mutual recompense, and the relationship between social classes was
seen as beneficial rather than exploitative. Please refer to the various links in this section to learn more
about peasants, nobles, and knights!
